MP, DCE Inspect Ongoing Development Projects Across Kasena Nankana West
PAGA, UPPER EAST REGION — August 21, 2026: The Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy, and the District Chief Executive for Kasena Nankana West, Hon. Stephen Akurugu, have jointly led a district-wide monitoring exercise to assess the progress of ongoing development projects.
The monitoring team—comprising the District Coordinating Director, engineers, planners and other officials—inspected several projects under construction, including a six-unit classroom block at Buru-Bonia, a three-unit classroom block at Agandaa, and a CHPS Compound with nurses’ quarters at Amutanga.
The exercise forms part of efforts by the District Assembly and the MP to ensure that projects funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and other public sources are executed according to approved scopes, specifications and standards.
Projects Reflect Campaign Commitments — MP
Speaking to the media, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy said the projects align with commitments he made to constituents during the 2024 general election campaign. He noted that the interventions were identified based on community needs, especially in education and healthcare.
At Buru-Bonia, the MP explained that the existing school infrastructure was inadequate for the growing pupil population, prompting him to prioritise the construction of additional classrooms.
“When I came to the people during the 2024 election campaign, I promised that if given the mandate, I would work to improve the infrastructure situation here. The school was struggling to accommodate learners, and that is why this classroom block became one of the priorities,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and said the new block would significantly ease pressure on existing facilities.
Agandaa Kindergarten Project Temporarily Affected by Rains
The team also visited Agandaa, where a three-unit classroom block for early childhood education is under construction. Hon. Alamzy said the project was part of his pledge to support the community with a Kindergarten facility.
He explained that the contractor had temporarily suspended work due to heavy rains and the waterlogged nature of the area. The poor road conditions have made it impossible for tipper trucks to transport materials to the site.
“The contractor has temporarily suspended work because of the rains and the waterlogged nature of the area. The road is currently not motorable for tipper trucks, but the contractor has assured us that work will resume as soon as the road becomes accessible,” he said.
He stressed that the suspension should not be mistaken for abandonment, adding that the contractor remained committed to completing the project.

Amutanga CHPS Compound to Boost Healthcare Delivery
At Amutanga, the team inspected an ongoing CHPS Compound and nurses’ quarters—another project the MP described as a fulfilment of a promise made to residents.
He noted that the community had long struggled to access quality healthcare due to the absence of a functional facility.
“The people of Amutanga have been without a health facility that is fit for purpose. We listened to their concerns, and through the Common Fund, this CHPS Compound and nurses’ quarters have been awarded. I am happy that work is progressing smoothly,” he said.
Hon. Alamzy added that the facility, once completed, would bring healthcare closer to residents and reduce the difficulties they face when seeking medical attention.
More Projects Underway Across the District
The MP disclosed that several other development projects were at various stages of execution across Kasena Nankana West. He said the projects were being financed through the DACF, the MPs’ Common Fund, and other sources.
“Several projects are at different stages in other parts of the district. Some are funded through the DACF, others through the MPs’ Common Fund and other sources. We are optimistic that the government will continue to fulfil its promises to the people,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring to ensure contractors deliver quality work.
DCE Assures Communities of Quality Supervision
District Chief Executive Hon. Stephen Akurugu expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects inspected. He commended the contractors and expressed confidence that the facilities would be completed and handed over to beneficiary communities.
“We are grateful for the work done so far, and we are confident that the contractors will continue to deliver according to the specifications,” he said.
Hon. Akurugu noted that monitoring was not only about checking physical progress but also ensuring strict adherence to approved designs and standards.
“Monitoring and supervision are very important because we must ensure that contractors meet the scope and specifications before completion. These facilities belong to the people, so we must make sure they receive value for money,” he added.
He assured residents that the Assembly would continue monitoring until completion and ensure proper handover of the facilities.
