Traditional Leaders Urged to Support Government by Creating Jobs for the Youth
The Chief of Gomoa Ekroful in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region, Nana Kobina Abban Ewudzie VI, has urged traditional leaders across the country to partner government in creating job opportunities for the youth to make them self‑sufficient.
According to him, the most effective way to curb anti‑social behaviour among young people is to support them in their quest to build meaningful lives and secure a better future.
Nana Kobina Abban Ewudzie VI stated that his top priority is to ensure that the youth gain employment so they can contribute to community development, which he believes will significantly reduce drug abuse and other negative behaviours. He added that with continued collaboration between traditional authorities and the Gomoa Central District Assembly, the youth will be empowered to become economically independent.
The chief, who also serves as the Dabewhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, made these remarks when he and the Agona Royal Family of Gomoa Ekroful celebrated their Annual Purification of the Black Stool (Eguantodo) last Tuesday.
The Eguantodo is an annual traditional rite performed to honour the ancestors who established the community many years ago and to seek their blessings for the people.
Nana Kobina Abban Ewudzie VI further expressed gratitude to Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, for his development‑oriented leadership, which he said has inspired numerous projects across the traditional area.
The Queen Mother of Gomoa Ekroful, Nana Ekua Ahema Sikapa, commended residents for supporting Nananom, led by Nana Kobina Abban Ewudzie VI, in championing human and infrastructural development. She expressed delight at the noticeable reduction in teenage pregnancies and pledged to promote the well‑being of the people—especially women and the youth—through sustainable skills training initiatives.
The Nkosouhene of Gomoa Ekroful, Nana Yaw Afful I, told journalists that he will continue to support Nananom to improve the economic lives of the people. He noted that vocational training remains his priority for the youth, rather than reliance on non‑existent white‑collar jobs.
