Police gun down three suspects over robbery of GH¢430,000 at Buipe cattle market

Three suspected members of a robbery syndicate have been killed in a shootout with the police in the Savannah Region.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in a GH¢430,000 robbery at the Buipe Cattle Market on June 29, 2026, during which two Mobile Money vendors were reportedly attacked by four armed men.

The Savannah Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate, has also arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.

According to a police statement issued on Friday, August 21, the gang was armed with two pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun and an AK-47 assault rifle. The suspects allegedly fired several shots before fleeing with the money.

Following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, police arrested 28-year-old Yacouba Oumar at Soronuase in the Bono East Region on July 23.

Police said Oumar admitted to participating in the robbery and identified Yakubu Seidu, alias Baba; Abdulai Aziz Yahaya, alias Addo; and Abduli Buipe, alias Addo, as his alleged accomplices.

He reportedly further told investigators that the group had been contracted by a cattle trader at the Buipe market identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu, to carry out the robbery.

The investigation subsequently led police teams to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where other suspected members of the group were believed to be hiding.

Police said their operations to apprehend the suspects resulted in an exchange of gunfire, during which Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu were killed.

Their bodies have been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police also recovered a pump-action gun loaded with five live BB cartridges and a single-barrel gun, which they suspect were used during the Buipe robbery.

Yacouba Oumar remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest Alhaji Yacouba and other persons allegedly linked to the robbery.
