Police seize nearly 500 cartons of tramadol in Upper East operation
The Ghana Police Service has seized nearly 500 cartons of assorted brands of Tramadol in an intelligence-led operation at Widana in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of a Burkinabe national suspected to be linked to the consignment.
According to the police, the drugs are believed to have been smuggled into Ghana through unapproved routes for distribution within the country and neighbouring states.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations as authorities work to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the shipment.
The Police Service said the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal importation, trafficking and abuse of Tramadol and other controlled substances, particularly in communities along Ghana's borders.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with residents and other security agencies to combat the movement of illicit drugs across the country's borders.
