Open Letter To Sammy Gyamfi: Insults And Sheer Arrogance Can’t Rescue You From The Losses Incurred By Goldbod

Dear Sammy Gyamfi,

I have come across your Facebook post, purportedly in response to the revered Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.

To say I was disappointed in you, as CEO of GoldBod, would be an understatement.

Your choice of words and tone were simply unfair to the Minority Leader, who raised fundamental issues concerning GoldBod's management. I expected a higher level of maturity, candour, and respect from you as a public office holder entrusted with the management of our national gold resources.

For clarity, as CEO of a state-owned institution like GoldBod, you have a duty to account to the people of Ghana. Let me state emphatically: you are not above public scrutiny, especially when your outfit is at the centre of national discussion.

In all fairness, the Minority Leader did not use unprintable or derogatory remarks during his engagement with the radio station. He simply referenced what the IMF stated in its report regarding the losses incurred by GoldBod—nothing more.

Objectively, the IMF's 2024 audited report indicated that GoldBod incurred a loss of $214 million in its gold trade dealings with the Bank of Ghana. Again, the 2025 report stated that the $214 million loss had ballooned to $1.7 billion, a development Ghanaians are monitoring closely.

So why the needless attacks on the Minority Leader for raising critical matters of national concern?

Are you above public scrutiny, or are you now a “demigod” whom no one can question or hold accountable?

Let me remind you: while in opposition, you were loud, fiery, and relentless in demanding accountability from public office holders. You lambasted the former President and his appointees and insisted that they account for every pesewa.

What has changed now that you do not want the Minority Leader or members of the opposition to highlight the losses incurred by GoldBod?

Under normal circumstances, if you are confident that no wrongdoing occurred under your leadership, you should be eager—rather than defensive—to account to Ghanaians.

Remember, no amount of insults or disrespect can save you from the huge losses incurred under your watch at GoldBod. Accountability is not optional. Transparency is not a favour. Public scrutiny is not an attack.

Be ready to account—and be free. You are not above the people of Ghana.

Shalom!
