KMA supports four SHSs in Kumasi with 400 sets of modern furniture

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has distributed 400 sets of modern furniture to four Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the metropolis as part of efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

The initiative, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), saw 100 sets of furniture presented to each of Prince of Peace SHS, Wesley Girls’ SHS, Kumasi Senior High Technical School (KSHTS), and Islamic SHS.

The Assembly has also indicated plans to extend similar support to 10 other Senior High Schools in the metropolis.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, said the government recognises the critical role of education in national development and that the Assembly was committed to creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

He disclosed that more than 1,000 additional sets of furniture would be procured before the end of the year and distributed equitably to schools every three months.

According to him, the supply of furniture would continue in the coming years until the challenge of inadequate furniture in schools was addressed.

Mr Ofori Agyeman Boadi further announced plans for additional educational infrastructure, including the construction of a 20-seater toilet facility at KSHTS and dining halls for Serwaa Nyarko Girls’ SHS and Islamic SHS.

He urged students to take their studies seriously and work hard to justify the investments being made in their education, adding that their success would make their families and the city proud.

The Metro Education Directorate, represented by Ms Judith Mensah Bamford, expressed appreciation to the KMA for its continuous support to schools in the metropolis.

She appealed for further assistance for both basic and senior high schools to help address their infrastructure and logistical needs.

Ms Rita Nti Acheampong of Prince of Peace SHS also thanked the Assembly for the support and assured that the beneficiary schools would take good care of the furniture to ensure that thousands of students benefit from it over the years.
