Sunyanimanhene sworn in

The Sunyanimanhene, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has officially been sworn in as Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, formally vesting him with the statutory and customary authority to perform the functions of the paramountcy.

The ceremony, held at the Boahen Korkor Royal Palace in Sunyani on Friday, August 14, 2026, followed his gazetting by the National House of Chiefs on July 30, 2026, in accordance with Ghana’s chieftaincy laws.

Her Ladyship, Jennifer Pokua Amponsah, a Sunyani Circuit Court Judge, administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to the Paramount Chief on behalf of the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The ceremony brought together chiefs and queens of the Sunyani Traditional Area, government officials, security personnel, residents and other members of the public.

The formal assumption of office brings to an end the period during which the Krontihene, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng Ababio, served as the Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council since 2022. He subsequently handed over the affairs of the Council to the newly sworn-in Paramount Chief.

Nana Ababio expressed gratitude to the people of Sunyani for their support during his tenure and throughout the processes leading to the installation of the new paramount chief.

Appreciation
In his address, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II expressed appreciation to the kingmakers, the people of Sunyani and the security agencies for their roles in ensuring a peaceful installation.

He also acknowledged the Bono Regional and National Houses of Chiefs for their contributions to the customary and legal processes that culminated in his gazetting and swearing-in.

The Paramount Chief called on divisional and sub-chiefs, as well as residents, to uphold honesty and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly in matters relating to land.

He cautioned individuals engaged in the illegal sale of lands in the Sunyani Traditional Area to desist from the practice, warning that perpetrators could face the full force of the law.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II also urged residents to refrain from illegal mining activities and appealed to all families and stakeholders to put aside their differences and unite for the development of the traditional area.

“We shall all serve as one people to develop the Sunyani Traditional Area. I am here to serve both royals and residents of Sunyani,” he said.

The Paramount Chief stressed that the collective efforts of traditional authorities, residents, government institutions and other stakeholders would be critical to accelerating development in the area and positioning Sunyani to contribute more significantly to national development.

His swearing-in marks a significant milestone in the traditional administration of the Sunyani Traditional Area, as he now assumes full responsibility for the customary and statutory functions of the paramountcy.
