Dr. Frank Yirenkyi Unseats Incumbent to Clinch NPP Oti Regional Chairmanship
Dr. Frank Yirenkyi, a urologist, has been elected Oti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after securing a narrow but decisive victory in a closely contested regional executive election.
Dr. Yirenkyi polled 83 votes to defeat the incumbent Chairman, Evans Yaw Dapaah, who garnered 71 votes. Hajia Sherifa Selina Sekyere‑Tijani followed with 60 votes, rounding off a competitive three‑way race.
The election took place at the Jasikan Diocesan Formation and Counselling Centre at Nsuta‑Buem in the Jasikan Municipality. It was supervised by the Oti Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Regional Director Nuhu Mohammad.
A total of 216 delegates were expected to cast their ballots, with 30 candidates vying for 11 regional executive positions.
Other elected executives include Stephen Alawaba as First Vice‑Chairman; Derrick Bonsu, Second Vice‑Chairman; Dr. Frank Awuah, Regional Secretary; Abubakar Adams, Assistant Secretary; and Nicholas Baafi, Treasurer.
The remaining positions were filled by Emmanuel Obonda, Organiser; Olivia Yawa Aglago, Women’s Organiser; Abibu Shaibu, Nasara Coordinator; Prince Amanor, Youth Organiser; and Seidu Musah, Communications Officer.
The polls, along with the counting and collation processes, were conducted peacefully, with no major incidents reported.
Dr. Yirenkyi is expected to work closely with the newly elected executives to strengthen party structures at both the regional and grassroots levels, steering the affairs of the NPP in the Oti Region.
The election marks the end of the tenure of the previous regional leadership and ushers in a new four‑year mandate for the incoming team.
