Cape Coast Assembly mobilises support for 8-year development plan

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has held the second edition of its Forum and Fundraising exercise as part of efforts to mobilise resources to transform the metropolis into a world-class tourist destination.

The event, held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast, brought together traditional leaders, government officials, academics, members of the clergy, media practitioners, development partners and residents of Cape Coast.

The participants shared a common commitment to supporting the implementation of the Assembly’s ambitious eight-year development plan.

Chief Executive of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. George Justice Arthur, outlined key sectors and projects contained in the development plan and provided an account of funds raised and pledges made during the first fundraising exercise held in Accra.

He also presented details of projects expected to commence as the Assembly intensifies efforts to mobilise the resources required to advance the development agenda of the metropolis.

A major highlight of the event was an assurance from the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Michael Harry Yamson, that the stalled Anaafo Market project would soon be completed.

Mr Yamson also announced plans for the construction of an ultramodern market at Abura, describing the initiative as a significant step towards expanding development within the metropolis.

The announcement further reinforced the growing importance of Abura as an emerging development hub within Cape Coast.

The DACF Administrator also provided updates on other key development projects being undertaken in the metropolis.

The event was chaired by the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area and Member of the Council of State, Osabarima Dr Kwesi Atta II, who was supported by members of the Oguaa Traditional Council.

The forum also generated fresh financial pledges from individuals and stakeholders towards the implementation of the eight-year development plan.

Among the dignitaries present were the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku; a representative of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Mr Sampson Ahianyo; former Chief of Staff, Nana Ato Dadzie; Vice Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University, Prof. Kweku A. Ayim Boakye; a representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast; and the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr Mrs Juliet Dufie Otami, who represented the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

The successful organisation of the second Cape Coast Forum and Fundraising exercise has reaffirmed the commitment of residents, institutions and stakeholders to supporting the Assembly’s long-term development agenda.

The Assembly said the collective effort was aimed at positioning Cape Coast as a modern and iconic tourist centre while improving infrastructure and creating opportunities for sustainable development across the metropolis.
