Bono Region inaugurates committee for 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration in Sunyani

The Bono Regional Coordinating Council has inaugurated a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to work closely with the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee towards the successful organisation of the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration in Sunyani.

The committee, chaired by the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has been tasked with ensuring the timely and effective implementation of all approved activities for the national celebration.

The six chairpersons of the local organising sub-committees will serve as the principal coordinating body for activities to be undertaken across the Bono Region, while members of the various sub-committees will serve as the operational arms of the LOC.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Akwaboa assured the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee that the Bono Regional Coordinating Council would provide the necessary leadership and coordination to ensure a successful celebration.

He urged members of the committee to meet regularly to assess progress, identify challenges and provide the necessary direction to the various sub-committees.

According to him, the objective should be to organise a celebration that would be remembered for its orderliness, hospitality, inclusiveness and strong reflection of the agricultural identity of the Bono Region.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Paul Siameh, who represented the sector Minister, Eric Opoku, urged members of the various sub-committees to avoid duplication of responsibilities and institutional rivalry.

He called on committee members to be proactive in identifying and addressing challenges, warning against allowing problems to persist until the final week of the celebration.

Mr Siameh said the Minister and the National Farmers’ Day Planning Secretariat would provide the necessary policy direction and technical support to enable the LOC and its sub-committees to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

He urged members to work collectively, faithfully, diligently and impartially to ensure the success of the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration.

“The members are to work collectively to ensure that the 42nd National Farmers' Day Celebration under the theme ‘Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future’, is successfully organised in Sunyani and reflects the recognition and importance that the Republic of Ghana accords its farmers, fishers and value-chain actors in the agricultural commodity chains,” he said.

The committee was subsequently duly constituted and inaugurated to begin preparations for the celebration.
