GCB denies robbery attempt at Labone branch, assures customers of safety

The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has denied reports that an attempted robbery occurred at its Labone Branch in Accra.

The bank said the branch was not breached and no customer, staff member, funds or property was affected by the incident reported in the Labone area.

The clarification follows a statement from the Ghana Police Service that it had foiled an attempted robbery at a GCB Bank branch in Labone on Thursday, August 13.

The Police said two suspected armed robbers were shot dead while another suspect was arrested during the operation.

However, the bank said in a statement issued on the same day clarified that "no robbery or attempted robbery took place at our Labone Branch or on the Bank's premises,"

The bank said its Labone Branch remains secure and urged customers to continue conducting their banking transactions without fear.

“At no point was the branch breached, and no customer, member of staff, funds or property of the Bank was affected,” it added.

GCB Bank said it had been in contact with the relevant authorities and would continue to monitor developments regarding the incident.

The bank also assured customers and stakeholders that it maintains robust security measures across its network to protect its customers, employees and facilities.
