11 killed, 13 injured in multiple-vehicle crash on Ofankor-Pokuase stretch
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that 11 people have died and 13 others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch in Accra.
The accident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, between the Ofankor Barrier and the John Teye enclave, with 24 people involved in the crash.
Seven vehicles were involved, comprising two tipper trucks, two Sprinter buses, two saloon cars and a tricycle.
The 13 injured victims were rescued and transported to the Achimota Hospital for medical attention.
The GNFS said rescue teams from the Amasaman Fire Station and the Service’s headquarters were deployed to the scene to assist with rescue operations.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, August 13, DO1 Emmanuel Bonnie said investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
The accident has caused significant disruption to vehicular movement along the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch as authorities continue rescue operations and investigations into the incident.
