Finance Minister commemorates 48th birthday with donation at Senior Correctional Centre
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and his friends have donated assorted items to the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra as part of activities marking his 48th birthday.
The donation, presented to support the welfare of inmates at the facility, included essential food supplies such as bags of staple foods, cooking ingredients and beverages, as well as sanitation and personal hygiene products.
The items are expected to supplement the feeding and care of young inmates and help address some of their basic welfare needs.
The donation was presented on behalf of the Finance Minister by the Friends of Ato Forson, a grassroots support group associated with the minister and his development initiatives.
Speaking in an interview, the Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, Lawyer Abass Nurudeen, commended Dr Ato Forson and his friends for choosing to spend the occasion supporting inmates at the correctional facility.
He said the gesture demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of people in vulnerable circumstances and indicated that the visit would not be the last.
Mr Nurudeen said challenges confronting the facility would be brought to the attention of the Finance Minister to explore possible ways of addressing them.
He also commended the management and staff of the Senior Correctional Centre for their dedication to caring for inmates, noting that working with inmates required patience, sacrifice and tolerance.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Senior Correctional Centre, DDP Yayra Ashong-Mettle, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, expressed appreciation to Dr Ato Forson and the Friends of Ato Forson for the gesture.
DDP Ashong-Mettle also commended the donors for their efforts to support the centre and improve conditions for inmates.
He described the engagement between the centre and the donors as an important partnership aligned with the “Think Prisons 360 Degrees” agenda, aimed at promoting the welfare and development of inmates.
