25-year-old man arrested over attempted robbery on Hiakose-Newense road
Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of being involved in an attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.
The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after he sought medical attention for a gunshot wound allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said its operations patrol team received information around 11 p.m. that armed robbers were attacking motorists and other road users along the Hiakose-Newense road.
According to the police, officers who rushed to the area heard gunshots as they approached the scene and spotted one of the suspected robbers escaping into a nearby bush with a bag.
The officers pursued the suspect, while a search of the area subsequently led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to have been taken from some of the victims.
The police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had reported to a medical facility to seek treatment for gunshot injuries.
Officers proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Nsiah. He was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock.
Nsiah is currently under police guard while receiving medical treatment.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery and to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to have participated in the incident.
