Speaker Bagbin to rally African Speakers behind global debt initiative
Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to lead efforts to mobilise African parliamentary leaders in support of a global initiative aimed at addressing the continent's growing debt challenges.
As part of the campaign, Bagbin will convene African Speakers, Presidents of Parliament and parliamentarians in Accra later this year to build support for coordinated action on the global debt situation.
A statement issued by the Global Institute for Transnational Intelligence and Finance (GITFiC) and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the engagement would take place during the 10th GITFiC Annual Meeting scheduled for October 14 and 15 in Accra.
The statement said Mr Bagbin would use his position as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) to rally legislative leaders across the continent behind the proposed initiative.
It said the Speaker had, in an endorsement recording, outlined strategies and implementation plans intended to advance the advocacy and secure the needed action on the global debt challenge.
