Ghana Youth Federation launches Eastern Regional Chapter, outdoored interim executives

The Ghana Youth Federation (GYF) has launched its Eastern Regional Federation and outdoored an interim regional executive body to lead efforts towards establishing youth federations across all 33 districts of the Eastern Region.

The launch and sensitisation programme, held on August 6 at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua, brought together 79 youth leaders representing youth-led and youth-focused organisations from all 33 districts.

The event forms part of GYF's nationwide initiative to establish district and regional federations, building on the existing network of youth organisations registered with the National Youth Authority (NYA).

The strong participation from across the region highlighted the growing interest among youth organisations in creating a coordinated platform through which they can collectively advocate for issues affecting young people.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the formal outdooring of the Eastern Regional Federation's Interim Executives. The executives are expected to spearhead mobilisation efforts and coordinate the establishment of District Youth Federations across the region.

In their acceptance address, the interim executives urged participating youth leaders to support the initiative, stressing that building a strong federation would require collective effort rather than depend solely on the regional leadership.

A representative of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who served as Guest of Honour, encouraged the youth leaders to unite behind a common agenda.

She noted that a unified youth voice would give young people greater influence when engaging political leaders and government institutions on policies and issues affecting their lives.

Her message reinforced the central theme of the programme that a fragmented youth movement has limited influence, while unity provides a stronger platform for advocacy and participation in national development.

Speaking on the GYF's mandate and nationwide rollout, the President of the Ghana Youth Federation, Sherif Ghali, described the Eastern Regional launch as an important milestone in efforts to provide young people with a unified platform.

“We have been waiting for a unified voice for a long time — now we have it. Let us unite and contribute to national development. The success of this Federation takes all of us.”

Mr Ghali also outlined the federation's governance structure and explained the rationale for using organisations already registered with the NYA as the foundation for establishing the regional and district structures.

With the interim regional executives now in place, attention will shift to the formation of District Youth Federations across the Eastern Region.

According to the National Coordinator of the Federation, Ali Ibraheem, District Youth Assemblies are expected to be organised across the region's 33 districts in the coming weeks.

The process will culminate in a Regional Youth Assembly, where substantive regional executives will be constituted and elected to lead the Eastern Regional Federation.

The Ghana Youth Federation is the national representative body of youth organisations in Ghana, established under the National Youth Authority Act, 2016 (Act 939).

It is a non-profit and non-partisan federation that seeks to unite, represent and advance the interests of young people across Ghana in collaboration with the National Youth Authority at the district, regional and national levels.
