NHIA disburses additional GH¢256.5 million in claims, bringing total payments to GH¢1.46 billion
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GH¢256.5 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country for claims submitted under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The payment, made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026, primarily covers services provided to NHIS members between January and June this year.
It follows an earlier disbursement of GH¢219.8 million on July 1 for claims up to May, in line with the Authority's commitment to reimbursing healthcare providers on a monthly basis.
According to the NHIA, the latest payment brings its total claims disbursement for 2026 to approximately GH¢1.46 billion, reaffirming its commitment to the timely settlement of legitimate claims and uninterrupted healthcare delivery nationwide.
"Timely claims payment strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS," the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, said in a statement issued on Friday, August 7.
Of the GH¢256.5 million disbursed, private healthcare providers received GH¢113.86 million, representing 44.39 percent of the total amount.
Public healthcare providers were paid GH¢97.34 million, representing 37.95 percent, while mission health facilities received GH¢45.29 million, accounting for 17.66 percent.
The Authority said the reimbursement will help healthcare facilities procure medicines and medical supplies, sustain essential services and continue providing quality care to NHIS members without interruption.
"Timely reimbursement remains critical to the effective functioning of the NHIS, enabling facilities to procure medicines and supplies, sustain essential services, and continue serving members without disruption," Dr. Bampoe stated.
