Bono REGSEC seizes galamsey equipment
The Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has seized 11 excavators, eight tricycles and 32 motorbikes from illegal mining sites in the region, Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Bono Regional Minister and Chairman of REGSEC, has said.
He said the seizures demonstrated the Council's commitment to curbing illegal mining, popularly known as 'galamsey', in the region.
Mr Akwaboa, however, said the fight against the menace required the support and cooperation of community members to achieve sustainable results.
Interacting with some media practitioners in Sunyani, he said neither REGSEC nor the government alone could shoulder the responsibility of fighting illegal mining.
He stressed that the galamsey fight required collective responsibility, adding that REGSEC had prioritised the campaign through operations that were making meaningful impacts in affected communities.
