Bawku: Bugzunde Chief laments lack of development, urges Mahama Ayariga to fulfil promises

The Chief of Bugzunde in the Bawku Municipality, Naba Mahamudu Azure Aguuri, has expressed disappointment with the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, accusing him of failing to deliver key development projects promised to the community.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Bugzunde Youth Association on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the chief said residents feel neglected despite their longstanding support for the MP.

“We love you, but you don't love us,” he said.

Naba Aguuri highlighted several pressing challenges facing the community, including the 17-year-old uncompleted Bugzunde Community School, poor road infrastructure and abandoned boreholes drilled during the 2024 election period.

He recalled that in the 2016 general election, many residents initially refused to vote because of the deplorable condition of the community's main road.

“But with intervention, they later voted massively for Hon. Mahama Ayariga. I don't know what to tell them if they refuse to vote in 2028,” he stated.

The chief stressed that the concerns being raised were not politically motivated but reflected the community's desire for equitable development.

He also expressed concern over an abandoned bridge project linking Bugzunde to Bawku, alleging that construction was started during the election period but has since stalled.

“We are told they are waiting to continue in the next elections, but we will not wait till that. We are urgently appealing to the MP and President John Dramani Mahama to come to our aid,” he appealed.

The Bugzunde Youth Association is calling for the immediate completion of the Bugzunde Community School, the asphalting of the Wiidi–Kutanga–Zuuku–Bugzunde road, the completion of the bridge project and the provision of potable water to the community.
