Dr. Agyemang-Lardey urges peace, dialogue over Electrochem–Ada dispute

The recent standoff between Electrochem Ghana Limited and sections of the indigenous people of Ada has become a matter of grave concern to every well-meaning citizen who desires peace, development, and prosperity for our beloved Ada Traditional Area.

As a proud son of Ada and Leader of Inspire Them Foundation, I have followed recent developments with deep concern. The growing tension threatens not only the peace and security of our communities but also the livelihoods of families, the confidence of investors, and the harmonious relationship that has existed among our people for generations.

Our people have every right to seek fairness, inclusion, and respect regarding issues that affect their ancestral lands and natural resources. Equally, every investor operating within our communities deserves an environment of peace, security, and constructive engagement. Development can only be sustained where there is mutual trust, transparency, and genuine partnership.

Unfortunately, prolonged confrontations, misunderstandings, and recurring conflicts serve no one's interest. The greatest victims of such tensions are often ordinary citizens—fishermen, salt winners, traders, women, youth, and children—whose daily lives are disrupted whenever peace is threatened.

It is for this reason that I respectfully call upon the Government of Ghana to intervene immediately through an impartial, transparent, and inclusive dialogue process involving all relevant stakeholders. This intervention should bring together representatives of Government, Electrochem Ghana Limited, traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups, women representatives, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders to seek lasting solutions.

The time has come for meaningful engagement that addresses the concerns of all parties while safeguarding peace, protecting legitimate investments, preserving community interests, and ensuring that the people of Ada benefit meaningfully from the development of their natural resources.

I further appeal to all parties to exercise maximum restraint. Violence, intimidation, destruction of property, or actions capable of inflaming passions will only deepen divisions and delay the search for lasting solutions. Let us choose dialogue over confrontation, understanding over hostility, and unity over division.

History reminds us that Ada has always been known for resilience, courage, and peaceful coexistence. Our rich cultural heritage teaches us that difficult moments are best resolved through wisdom, consultation, and collective responsibility rather than conflict.

As citizens, we all share the responsibility of protecting the image and future of Ada. Let us remember that today's decisions will determine the opportunities available to future generations.

At this critical moment, I respectfully urge His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, the parliarment of Ghana, the Minister for Interior, the Minister responsible for Lands and Natural Resources, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Regional Security Council, and all relevant state institutions to give this matter the urgent attention it deserves before tensions escalate further. Early intervention through dialogue and confidence-building measures will be far less costly than responding after conflict has intensified.

As our cherished Asafotufiami Festival approaches, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Chiefs, Queen Mothers, elders, youth, and the entire people of Ada, both at home and across the diaspora.

Asafotufiami is more than a celebration of victory; it is a symbol of unity, courage, resilience, sacrifice, and our shared identity as Ada people. It reminds us that our greatest strength lies not in our differences but in our ability to stand together for the common good.

May this year's celebration renew our commitment to peace, reconciliation, development, and progress. Let us use this sacred occasion to strengthen our bonds as one people, celebrate our rich cultural heritage, and work together to build an Ada where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

I wish every son and daughter of Ada a peaceful, joyful, and memorable Asafotufiami Festival 2026.
