Atta Mills would be turning in his grave over NDC ills today – Sammi Awuku
Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North Constituency, Hon Sammi Awuku has said the late former President John Evans Atta Mills would have criticised some actions of the present National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration if he were alive today.
Speaking during a tribute to the late President in Parliament, the former National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said Prof. Mills firmly believed in freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and democratic tolerance.
“I am very sure that if Prof. Mills were alive today, he would definitely have spoken against some of the actions and ills of the NDC,” he said.
According to him, the late President consistently defended democratic freedoms and accepted criticism without resorting to persecution of his political opponents.
“He advocated for freedom of speech and freedom of assembly at all times,” Mr. Awuku stated.
He urged the governing party to reflect on Prof. Mills’ principles and ensure that his democratic ideals continue to influence governance and political discourse in Ghana.
