COCOBOD begins nationwide stakeholder engagement on new cocoa law
The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has begun a nationwide stakeholder engagement campaign to educate key players in the cocoa sector on the newly passed Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026.
The exercise started at Cocoa House in Accra, where representatives of cocoa farmer-based organisations, civil society groups and the Licensed Cocoa Buyers Association of Ghana (LICOBAG) met with COCOBOD management to discuss the provisions of the new law.
The engagement forms part of efforts to deepen understanding of the legislation and ensure its smooth implementation across the country's cocoa industry.
"Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has commenced a nationwide stakeholder engagement series following the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026, beginning with key actors in Ghana's cocoa sector at Cocoa House, Accra," the Board said in a statement shared on Tuesday, August 4.
According to COCOBOD, the discussions, led by Chief Executive Dr Randy Abbey and members of the management team, focused on the Board's mandate, regulatory oversight, financing policy, producer pricing framework, cocoa farm protection, traceability, licensing and the farmer pension scheme under the new legal framework.
The Board said the engagements are intended to clarify the responsibilities of various stakeholders and encourage their active participation in implementing the new legislation.
"The stakeholder engagement will continue at the national level, and will be cascaded to the regional, district and cocoa society levels, to build broad understanding of the new law and ensure its effective implementation," the statement noted.
