One dead after heavy rainstorm washes away bridge connecting Bugri and Arizeem in Tempane
A young man yet to be identified has died after a bridge linking Bugri and Arizeem in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region collapsed during a heavy rainstorm.
The incident occurred after torrential rains caused the bridge to collapse, cutting off access between the two communities.
The victim, who was riding a motorbike from Bugri to Asikiri in the Bawku Municipality, was reportedly swept away by the raging floodwaters together with his motorcycle.
He died instantly.
Residents gathered at the collapsed bridge on Monday morning, where grief‑stricken women wailed as they mourned the deceased.
The disaster has renewed calls for authorities to urgently repair the damaged road and reconstruct the bridge to restore access and prevent further loss of life.
