MTN Ghana's half-year profit hits GH¢5.1billion as digital services fuel exceptional growth
MTN Ghana has reinforced its position as Ghana's telecommunications market leader after posting a stellar financial performance for the first half of 2026, driven by surging demand for data and mobile money services.
The company announced a 46.8 percent year-on-year increase in profit after tax to GH¢5.1 billion, reflecting another period of robust growth, strong execution and sustained investment in digital innovation.
The telecom giant also recorded GH¢15 billion in service revenue, representing a 32.3 percent increase, while EBITDA climbed 37.2 percent to GH¢9.3 billion, with its EBITDA margin improving to 61.8 percent.
Addressing investors during a webcast, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett described the company's performance as a reflection of its resilience and strategic focus.
"The first six months of the year have demonstrated the resilience of our business model and the strength of our execution. Against the backdrop of evolving market conditions, we remain focused on serving our customers, executing our strategy, and delivering sustainable value for all our stakeholders," he said.
The company's strong operational performance also saw profit before tax rise by 56.4 percent to GH¢7.4 billion, underscoring MTN Ghana's ability to convert growing customer demand into higher earnings.
Mr. Blewett said the improved profitability was made possible through disciplined cost management and effective execution.
"Our disciplined execution enabled us to sustain strong profitability with an uplifted EBITDA margin of 61.8 percent.
This underscores the effectiveness of our revenue and cost management initiatives and our commitment to balancing growth with operational efficiency," he noted.
Shareholders are also set to benefit significantly from the strong results.
Earnings per share increased by 46.1 percent to GH¢0.388, while the company declared a second-quarter dividend of GH¢0.06 per share, bringing the total interim dividend for the first half of 2026 to GH¢0.12 per share—a 50 percent increase over the same period in 2025.
Beyond profitability, MTN Ghana recorded substantial improvements in key financial performance indicators.
Return on capital increased to 82.7 percent, return on equity rose to 38.8 percent, while return on assets improved to 8.4 percent, highlighting the company's efficient use of capital and resources.
"We are growing our revenue base, expanding profitability, generating strong returns and creating sustainable value for our shareholders while continuing to invest for future growth," Mr. Blewett emphasized.
With strong momentum across connectivity, fintech, enterprise solutions, home broadband and digital services, MTN Ghana says it remains well-positioned to sustain growth in the months ahead while deepening financial inclusion and accelerating Ghana's digital transformation.
