NACOC arrests 10 over alleged cannabis sale at Koforidua Technical University
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested 10 persons for allegedly trafficking cannabis and cannabis-infused beverages during Students' Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations at Koforidua Technical University (KTU) in the New Juaben South Municipality.
The suspects, comprising nine men and one woman, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted on the night of Friday, July 31, following reports of suspected drug-related activities on the university campus.
According to NACOC, the operation led to the seizure of quantities of suspected cannabis and a variety of consumable products believed to have been laced with the narcotic. Items retrieved included wraps of suspected cannabis, cups of "abele" ice cream, bottles of pineapple juice, sobolo, fresh palm wine and other beverages.
The Commission said preliminary field tests carried out on the seized items indicated the presence of cannabis, raising concerns that the products were being distributed to patrons attending the celebrations.
The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations as NACOC seeks to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any other individuals who may be linked to the illicit trade.
