Thousands gather at Independence Square to honour Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka
Thousands of members of the Kristo Asafo Mission from across Ghana assembled at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday to bid a final farewell to the church's founder and the visionary behind the Kantanka Group, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, as the second day of his funeral rites unfolded.
The solemn ceremony drew a large crowd of mourners, including traditional leaders, politicians, family members, friends and admirers, all of whom came to celebrate the life and legacy of a man widely recognised for his contributions to engineering, manufacturing, innovation and religious leadership.
Among the prominent personalities in attendance were the Chief of Nsawam, Okokroko Nana Kwamena Ansah, representing Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Akwamuhene; former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddy Blay; the NPP's Director of Legal Affairs, Garry Nimako Marfo; and the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikem Akurugu.
The event featured a series of tributes and customary funeral rites, with speakers reflecting on Apostle Safo's enduring impact on Ghana's industrial development, indigenous technological advancement and the growth of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Members of the Kristo Asafo Mission travelled from all parts of the country to participate in the ceremony, filling the venue in a show of respect for the man they described as their spiritual father, mentor and source of inspiration.
Family members, including the late Apostle's children, paid glowing tributes, highlighting his unwavering commitment to faith, education, entrepreneurship and innovation. They recounted his influence within the family, his leadership of the church and his pioneering role in promoting locally manufactured products and technology.
Traditional Ghanaian funeral customs also featured prominently throughout the day's activities, with cultural performances, customary rites and funeral donations adding to the solemn atmosphere as mourners honoured the memory of the revered religious leader.
The funeral programme will conclude today in the Ashanti Region, bringing to an end the three-day national farewell for the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group.
