Adwoa Safo proceeds with father's burial amid ongoing court dispute
Former Minister of State, Sarah Adwoa Safo, on Thursday proceeded with the burial of her father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, despite an ongoing legal dispute over the organisation of his funeral and burial arrangements.
The burial ceremony was held at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region as part of a three-day funeral programme scheduled to take place across the Central, Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
The burial was conducted while a case concerning the late religious leader's funeral arrangements remains pending before the High Court, following disagreements among members of the Safo family over who has the legal authority to oversee his final rites.
The development has intensified public interest in the dispute, with attention now focused on the pending court proceedings and the legal implications of the burial.
The ceremony drew family members, officials of the Kristo Asafo Mission, traditional leaders, friends and sympathisers, who gathered to pay their final respects to the renowned inventor, industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The legal dispute arose after differences emerged within the family over the organisation of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka's funeral and the implementation of his final wishes.
Although the High Court is yet to determine the substantive issues before it, the funeral programme proceeded as scheduled.
The burial is expected to feature prominently in the ongoing legal proceedings when the parties return to court.
Funeral rites
The burial ceremony was marked by traditional Ghanaian funeral rites to celebrate the life and legacy of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Mourners participated in the laying of wreaths, made funeral donations and paid glowing tributes in honour of his contributions to national development.
A biography of the late Apostle was also read, recounting his life, achievements and pioneering role in Ghana's engineering, technological and industrial sectors.
His grandchildren also delivered tributes, reflecting on his values, leadership and lasting impact on the family and society.
Three-day funeral programme
The funeral activities are expected to continue in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions as part of the family's three-day programme.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was widely celebrated for his innovations in engineering, automobile manufacturing, agriculture and technology.
He founded the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group, institutions that have become synonymous with indigenous innovation, industrialisation and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
