As Ghana approaches a defining electoral crossroads, the choice of the nation's next Chief Executive demands a rigorous, unvarnished evaluation of character, competence, and accountability. Leadership is not defined by economic theories or lofty rhetorical promises, but by the tangible fruits of governance and the preservation of public trust. For nearly eight years, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has occupied the second-highest office in the land, structurally positioned as the head of the Economic Management Team and the primary architect of the administration's policy execution.

While his handlers consistently market him as a visionary technocrat, a sober assessment of his record reveals a trail of unfulfilled promises, institutional failures, and profound governance scandals. From catastrophic economic mismanagement to stalled infrastructure and severe allegations of state capture, Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy carries an unprecedented amount of political and ethical baggage. For a nation grappling with historic debt and eroded trust in public institutions, electing Dr. Bawumia would represent a continuity of institutional decay rather than the fresh start Ghana so desperately requires.

The Pillars of Failure: A Record of Incompetence and Scandal

1. The PDS Scandal and Institutional Negligence

• Failure of Safeguards: As a key leader in the government's economic framework, Dr. Bawumia oversaw the disastrous Power Distribution Services (PDS) concession, which saw the assets of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) handed over to an ill-prepared consortium.
• Loss of Vital Aid: The systemic failure to properly vet the financial guarantees resulted in the termination of the deal, causing Ghana to permanently lose $190 million in funding from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation.

2. The Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam Deception

• Prioritize Institutional Integrity Over Rhetoric: Ghanaians must shift focus away from superficial campaign branding and instead evaluate leaders based on their commitment to anti-corruption, transparent procurement, and the rule of law.

Ghana’s current economic and social vulnerabilities cannot endure four or eight more years of governance by public relations.
