Adwoa Safo is no Yaa Asantewaaa

​No one should tarnish Yaa Asantewaa's name by taking a woman who has actively disgraced herself at Parliament—and even ignored an injunction—by calling her by our warrior queen's name. She is no Yaa Asantewaa; she is someone who openly defies injunctions. What do you call someone with no regard for the law? I refuse to even call her "Honourable," and I refuse to call her a lawyer. I call her a public liability and a lawbreaker.

​After she was absent from Parliament and her parliamentary duties to go and dance on TikTok in the US—because drama and nonsense are all she knows—is this what we call women's empowerment? Apparently, she is well-educated, but what use is that education when it is only used to peddle lies, such as saying Otumfuo set the date for the funeral? What use is her intelligence when it is used to mock Parliament and the judiciary? Is this feminism? Is this women's empowerment? What are we teaching our young girls if this horrible behavior is deemed acceptable? No wonder all some care about is materialism and inappropriate relationships (fucker dem and matter dem), because even the women in power who are educated are nothing to write home about.

​Really, we cannot look at Mabel Dove Danquah, Yaa Asantewaa, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Akua Asabea Ayisi, Hannah Tetteh, Efua Sutherland, Ama Ata Aidoo, or even women like Nana Oye Lithur, and place Adwoa Safo anywhere near them as a symbol of women's empowerment. What has Adwoa Safo done? Apart from disappearing from Parliament, taking the law into her own hands, and trying to enter someone's property when she is not welcome, she is, to be honest, a liar. Therefore, her account of the shooting and the hearsay she claims to have heard from her father hold no weight with me. And defying a court injunction? How dare people even roll their tongues to compare her to our mighty, revered Yaa Asantewaa!

​I hope the Ghanaian judiciary severely penalizes this so-called lawyer—this former disgraced MP who was removed from her seat due to prolonged absence from Parliament. She acts with so much arrogance, impunity, disregard, and disrespect that it is nauseating. She must be brought to book. Ghana is becoming unbecoming; how can a lawyer and former disgraced MP act with such impudence? And guess who was also at the illegal funeral? Our very own Bawumia, leader of the minority.

​Ghana is becoming a joke. This is not Kwame Nkrumah's Black Star, and she is certainly not an advocate for women's empowerment or courage. She is a reckless lawbreaker. That is all.

​Shouldn't the modern Ghanaian woman achieve greater things than the women who came before them? It feels as though the modern Ghanaian woman in power is a disgrace to the memory of trailblazers like Mabel Dove Danquah; we are going backwards because I cannot believe people are hailing this woman as Yaa Asantewaa. Ɛyɛ asɛm fim!
