Feeling heavy, he decides to rest on the plush bed "just for a few minutes" to gather his strength. He falls into a deep sleep, only to be rudely awoken by the guards shouting that his time is up. He is thrown out empty-handed, weeping in deep regret because he traded eternal wealth for a temporary meal and a nap.

• The Food and Bed are Distractions: The heavy food and comfortable bed represent short-term pleasures, social media obsession, laziness, and the dangerous mindset of "time dey" (there is plenty of time).

Why Ghanaians Fall into the Fisherman's Trap

• The Procrastination Epidemic: Many young Ghanaians trade their most productive years—their prime "six hours"—waiting for a perfect government job while ignoring small business opportunities or skill development.
• Instant Gratification Over Legacy: Like eating for two hours, we often spend our scarce resources on lavish social events, weddings, and funeral clothing rather than investing in long-term financial security or community development.
• Complacency and the "Comfort Zone": The comfortable bed represents the trap of small achievements. Once some comfort is achieved, many stop striving for excellence, sleeping through critical opportunities to scale up their impact.

Actionable Recommendations for Change

• Audit Your Daily Treasury: Track how you spend your time. Eliminate the "food and bed" activities that drain your hours without adding value to your life or career.
• Create Before You Consume: The fisherman should have packed his bags with diamonds first; he could have bought a thousand banquets later. Prioritize investments, business creation, and skill-building before indulging in luxury.
• Maximize National Productivity: On a national scale, Ghana must move away from long bureaucratic delays. Time is currency, and punctuality must become a core national civic virtue to drive development.

REMEMBER that the guard at the door of life never grants extensions. When the clock strikes, no amount of begging will buy back the hours wasted on distractions. Let us wake up from our collective slumber, step away from the comforting beds of complacency, and aggressively gather the gold and diamonds of our potentials while we still have the time.
