NHIA disburses GH¢219.8 million to healthcare providers
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢219.8 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country to support the continued delivery of healthcare services under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The payment, released on July 1, 2026, covers a backlog of claims from previous years as well as vetted claims for services provided up to May 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 30, and signed by its Corporate Affairs Directorate, the Authority noted that the latest disbursement brings the total amount paid in claims so far this year to nearly GH¢1.2 billion.
The NHIA said the payment is aimed at strengthening the financial sustainability of healthcare providers and ensuring uninterrupted access to quality healthcare services for NHIS members nationwide.
"This payment reinforces our commitment to strengthening the financial sustainability of the health facilities that serve NHIS members every day. We remain focused on ensuring that providers across the country, from our largest hospitals to the smallest CHPS compounds, receive timely and accurate reimbursement for the care they provide," the NHIA explained.
Of the total amount disbursed, private healthcare facilities received GH¢98.24 million, representing 44.69 per cent of the payment.
Public healthcare facilities received GH¢80.86 million, accounting for 36.78 per cent, while mission and faith-based healthcare providers received GH¢40.70 million, representing 18.53 per cent.
Commenting on the development, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said the Authority remains committed to improving claims processing and ensuring healthcare providers receive reimbursements on time.
He noted that measures are being implemented to improve claims processing efficiency, reduce payment turnaround times and strengthen collaboration with healthcare providers in line with the government's goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage.
