Dr. Adusu Sweeps SMLM‑G Election with 99% Mandate
Members of the Society of Medical Laboratory Managers, Ghana (SMLM‑G), have elected Dr. Stephen Justice Adusu as the new Board Chairperson for the 2026–2028 term.
The election was held during the Society’s 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra on Thursday, July 24, 2026, under the theme: “Advancing Quality Medical Laboratory Services through Sustainable Financing and Human Resource Management.”
Dr. Adusu secured an overwhelming mandate, receiving 118 YES votes, zero NO votes and one abstention out of 119 ballots cast—representing a 99% approval rating. His victory underscores members’ confidence in his leadership, experience and dedication to strengthening medical laboratory management in Ghana.
Assuming office at a critical time, Dr. Adusu will lead the Society as laboratory services nationwide continue to grapple with inadequate staffing, equipment breakdowns, reagent shortages, quality management gaps and limited representation in health‑sector decision‑making.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Adusu pledged to build on the gains of previous administrations and collaborate closely with stakeholders to enhance laboratory leadership, improve quality systems, promote professional development and advocate for sustainable investment in laboratory services.
The AGM also elected a new Board of Directors to steer the Society’s affairs for the next two years. The newly elected board comprises:
• Dr. Stephen Justice Adusu – Board Chairperson • Dr. Theresa Salifu – Vice Chairperson • Dr. Nelson Ekow Kumah – Secretary • MLS Pascal Hodogbe – Financial Secretary
Members expressed optimism that the new leadership will drive the Society’s strategic priorities, including strengthening stakeholder engagement, expanding membership, implementing the Laboratory Managers Certification Programme, promoting laboratory accreditation and advocating for the inclusion of laboratory managers in healthcare leadership structures.
The election marks a new chapter for SMLM‑G as it continues its mission of promoting excellence in medical laboratory management and supporting the delivery of quality healthcare services across Ghana.
Delegates at the AGM congratulated Dr. Adusu and the newly elected Board, pledging their support toward achieving the Society’s vision of a stronger, more resilient and professionally recognized medical laboratory management system.
