Two suspected drug dealers nabbed with 170 parcels of suspected Indian hemp in Tamale
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered 170 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation at Katariga in Tamale.
According to a police statement, the operation was carried out by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team (Red Maria) at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.
Police said the first suspect, Godwin Yamegi, 32, was arrested with two parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that the suspected narcotic substance had been supplied by Seth Amekuse, 33.
Acting on the information, the police proceeded to Seth Amekuse's residence at Katariga, where he was arrested. A search of his room led to the recovery of an additional 168 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
In total, police recovered 170 parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.
The exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and processing.
Both suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations to face the appropriate charges.
The Northern Regional Police Command commended the public for its continued cooperation and encouraged residents to volunteer credible information on drug-related and other criminal activities through the nearest police station.
The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents by pursuing individuals engaged in the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.
