Akofena is embarrassing the family, destroying our late father's legacy – Adwoa Safo
Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has accused her brother, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, of damaging the legacy of their late father, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, amid an ongoing dispute over the leadership and funeral arrangements of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, July 28, Adwoa Safo expressed disappointment over her brother’s conduct, claiming that his efforts to assume leadership of the church had contributed to the public disagreement surrounding the family and the institution.
She said the controversy had shifted attention away from the achievements and contributions of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, stressing that leadership of the church should be pursued through unity and respect rather than public disputes.
“It is embarrassing and a shame that one person in the family wants to wash our dirty linen in public and engage the media all the time,” she said.
Adwoa Safo further criticised her brother for what she described as a failure to take responsibility in handling family matters, accusing him of focusing on challenging decisions rather than working to preserve their father’s legacy.
She argued that anyone seeking to lead the church must allow the process to unfold naturally and avoid actions that could create division within the organisation.
“If God wants you to lead the church, it will happen. But don’t force your way through it or use any means to secure the position,” she stated.
The former MP maintained that pastoral leadership is a divine calling and should not be pursued through personal ambition or pressure, warning that such approaches could harm both the reputation of the church and the individual involved.
Her comments come amid a growing disagreement over the funeral arrangements for Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana.
The church recently indicated that it had not received official communication on any confirmed funeral or burial arrangements for the late apostle. However, Adwoa Safo has rejected the claim, insisting that the funeral rites will begin on Thursday, July 30, with subsequent activities scheduled thereafter.
