GMet forecasts fog, cloudy weather, morning mist and afternoon thunderstorms across parts of Ghana
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast a predominantly cloudy day across the country on Tuesday, July 28, with mist, fog and isolated light rain expected in the morning before thunderstorms develop over parts of the northern and transition belts later in the day.
In its 18-hour weather outlook, GMet said widespread cloud cover will dominate the early hours, with patches of mist and fog likely to reduce visibility in coastal, forest and mountainous areas.
The agency indicated that some communities in the coastal and forest zones could experience light rain or drizzle during the morning, while isolated thunderstorms and rain are expected in parts of the Upper West and Upper East regions.
In the southern sector, mostly cloudy skies are expected over Aflao, Anloga, Ho and Kasoa. Light rain has been forecast for Accra, Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kwahu Tafo, Kumasi and Obuasi, while misty conditions are likely in Winneba, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, Tarkwa and Sefwi Bekwai. Kintampo is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions.
Across the middle and northern parts of the country, morning mist is anticipated in Kete Krachi, Atebubu, Ejura, Sampa and Goaso. Wa and Jirapa could experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain, while Yendi, Tamale, Bole, Damongo, Bolgatanga and Nalerigu are expected to remain partly cloudy. Sunny intervals are forecast for Sunyani, with Techiman expected to remain mostly cloudy.
GMet said weather conditions are expected to improve gradually as the day progresses, with sunshine breaking through in many areas. However, cloud cover will persist in some places, and thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely to develop over sections of the transition and northern belts during the afternoon and evening.
Temperatures are forecast to range between minimum values of 23°C in the coastal and forest zones and 24°C in northern Ghana. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach about 30°C along the coast and in forest areas, 32°C across the transition belt and up to 33°C in the northern sector.
The agency also warned that sea conditions will remain rough throughout the day and advised fishermen, coastal communities and other users of marine waters to exercise caution.
GMet further urged motorists to drive carefully because of reduced visibility caused by early morning mist and fog, while encouraging the public to monitor weather updates as thunderstorms are expected to develop in parts of the country later in the day.
