Chief Justice directs all courts to suspend sittings for Supreme Court 150th anniversary on July 28
Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has directed that all courts in the Greater Accra Region will not sit on Tuesday, July 28, and Friday, July 31, 2026, to enable judges and magistrates to participate in activities commemorating the 150th anniversary of Ghana's Supreme Court.
The directive was contained in a notice issued by the Judicial Service of Ghana and applies to all judges and magistrates serving within the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Judicial Service, the temporary suspension of court proceedings is intended to allow members of the judiciary to fully participate in the climax of the anniversary celebrations and the thanksgiving service marking the historic milestone.
The main commemorative event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), while the thanksgiving service will be held on Friday, July 31, at the Accra Ridge Church.
The Judicial Service described the anniversary as a landmark event in the history of Ghana's apex court and encouraged all judges and magistrates in the region to take part in the activities.
