Why Discipline, Tolerance And Collaboration Must Be The Guiding Principles Within The NPP In The Northern Region

In my introductory and initial commentary, I extend warm felicitations to the leadership and the rank and file of our great Party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Northern Region of Ghana.

To dive deeper into the substance of this article, let me emphasize that this is not a piece meant to denigrate, malign, or vilify the leadership of the NPP in the Northern Region. Rather, it is a sincere call from a concerned member who believes in the survival, growth, and ultimate victory of our great Party.

In today’s political arena, leadership is far more than occupying positions or bearing titles. True political leadership demands the ability to manage diverse groups of people, expectations, and disagreements. Leadership without smart management breeds division — and division, in politics, leads to defeat.

THE TEST OF LEADERSHIP

Political leadership is truly tested when tensions escalate and divisions emerge. That is the moment leaders must demonstrate deep acumen, emotional intelligence, and the ability to contain issues, listen, and bring people together.

We are in such a moment now in the Northern Region.

As an active member, I am deeply concerned about the perceived lack of discipline and tolerance within our ranks. Yet we must remember that the founding members of the NPP in the Northern Region fought through thick and thin for the survival of this Party. We owe it to their legacy to protect what they built.

LESSONS FROM 2024

We came out of the 2024 election defeated. It was embarrassing and humiliating, to say the least. But every defeat carries lessons.

If we are serious about rebuilding and reorganizing for 2028, we cannot choose a path that further divides our front. We must choose a path that restores a sense of belonging, unity, and love among ourselves.

WHY THESE THREE PRINCIPLES MATTER NOW

1. DISCIPLINE

Parties win power through strategic mobilization, not chaos. Cracking the whip on indiscipline, insults on social media, public attacks on our own members, and disregard for Party structures is not oppression — it is order.

Discipline protects the Party’s brand and gives leadership the moral authority to lead.

2. TOLERANCE

We are a party of ideas. We will not always agree. But we must accept divergent views through dialogue, not through open public outbursts of disappointment.

Tolerance means: “I disagree with you, but you are still my fellow patriot.” That is how we keep the family together.

3. COLLABORATION

Politics is a numbers game. No one wins alone.

Regional executives, constituency executives, electoral area committee members, polling station executives, youth, women, and professionals within our Party must all see themselves as part of one project.

Collaboration means leadership listens — and members also take responsibility to mobilize, not just complain.

THE WAY FORWARD

In my objective view, leadership in the Northern Region must lead with fairness, engage all factions, and reward loyalty to the Party. Members, on the other hand, must own the rebuilding process through active mobilization, defending the Party on all platforms, and speaking with one unified message to Ghanaians.

For the Party to be functional and attractive, its structures must work — from the Regional level down to the polling station. Dialogue platforms must be activated to resolve issues internally before they escalate into the public domain.

CONCLUSION

We have a huge task ahead of us, and we can only surmount it through Discipline, Tolerance, and Collaboration.

The Northern Region has always been key to NPP victory. If we get our house in order here, we send a strong signal to the entire country that the NPP is united, focused, and ready for 2028.

Let us honor our forebears by protecting what they built through genuine sacrifice and commitment. Let us honor our future by doing the hard work today.
