Ghana, India Set Bold $6bn Trade Target as Ablakwa, New Envoy Deepen Strategic Ties
Ghana and India have set an ambitious goal of doubling bilateral trade to $6 billion, a move Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says will accelerate economic transformation and create new opportunities for young people.
Mr Ablakwa made the disclosure while receiving letters of credence from India’s new High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Surinder Bhagat, highlighting agriculture, ICT and pharmaceutical manufacturing as priority sectors for deeper cooperation.
He said both countries were committed to leveraging their comparative strengths to drive growth, support President John Dramani Mahama’s Feed Ghana initiative, and expand opportunities in the digital and health sectors.
“We have an ambitious target; we want to double our trade volumes. In the medium term, we are looking at $6 billion, which is doable,” he said. “We also want to work closely in the area of agriculture; you have a comparative advantage there, you have machinery. And President John Dramani Mahama wants us to collaborate to support the Feed Ghana initiative. Another area is the IT space.”
The renewed partnership is expected to strengthen Ghana–India economic ties and unlock new investments across key sectors.
