• A Strangling Funding Blockade: Rather than dissecting or debating these numbers on their structural merit, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin retaliated by declaring a complete funding blockade. • The Charges: The court found Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining Limited, guilty on multiple criminal counts under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006. Specifically, the court found that Wontumi unlawfully assigned mineral rights to two individuals—Michael Gyedu Ayisi and Henry Okum—without obtaining the required approval from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
• Industrial Destruction: Furthermore, Wontumi faces separate, ongoing prosecution for invading the protected Tano Nimri Forest Reserve in Samreboi. The state alleges that Akonta Mining operated entirely without a valid license, unlawfully felled at least 300 merchantable trees, and built illegal structures inside the reserve.
