Mid-Year Budget Review: Provide update on jobs promised under 24-hour economy - Fuseini Issah tells gov't
Former Okaikwei North Member of Parliament (MP), Fuseini Issah, has called on the government to provide updates on jobs promised under the 24-hour economy and other flagship initiatives ahead of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
The former MP questioned the progress of key commitments outlined in the 2026 Budget, including the Big Push programme, the proposed industrial initiatives and other job creation interventions.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily programme on Thursday, July 23, he said Ghanaians deserve clarity on the number of jobs created so far under the government’s employment promises.
"We want to hear the progress on all of these initiatives from the minister when he goes to Parliament today," he said.
Fuseini Issah said the government had promised to create 1.7 million jobs within four years but questioned the progress made so far.
He argued that the initiative was presented to Ghanaians as a broader employment strategy that would enable businesses and workers to operate across different shifts, rather than only extending operating hours at some fuel stations.
"What are we hearing about 24-hour economy today? That filling stations are running 24-hour economies. That 300 filling stations are running. Was that what they told us?" he asked.
The former lawmaker also demanded updates on specific job creation targets announced in the 2026 Budget, including the Big Push programme, which he said was expected to generate 450,000 jobs, and other initiatives projected to create hundreds of thousands of additional jobs.
