Nhyiaeso residents defend Stephen Amoah, reject 'low-performing' ranking

Some residents of the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region have dismissed a recent assessment that reportedly classified their Member of Parliament, Dr. Stephen Amoah, as a low-performing legislator.

Speaking during an interaction with Dr Amoah on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the residents described the ranking, attributed to pollster Musa Dankwa of Global InfoAnalytics, as inaccurate and inconsistent with the MP's record in both Parliament and the constituency.

One of the residents, Kojo Boakye, praised Dr. Amoah's parliamentary performance, insisting that he remains one of the most active lawmakers in the country.

"Dr. Stephen Amoah is one of the best Members of Parliament. He contributes significantly on the floor of Parliament and has delivered several extemporaneous speeches that demonstrate his knowledge and competence," he said.

Mr. Boakye noted that as the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Finance Committee and a member of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Dr. Amoah has consistently distinguished himself in debates on economic and financial matters.

"He is always among the Minority MPs who speak eloquently on issues relating to the economy and finance. The primary responsibility of an MP is parliamentary work, and he has excelled in that regard," he added.

According to him, Dr. Amoah has also tabled several statements on the floor of Parliament, two of which were referred by the Speaker to the relevant sector ministries for immediate action.

Beyond Parliament, the residents highlighted what they described as the MP's strong engagement with his constituents through regular visits, attendance at funerals, church programmes and weddings.

They also pointed to some development projects and social interventions undertaken by Dr. Amoah, including the award of more than 3,000 scholarships to students, construction and rehabilitation of roads, and the distribution of over 2,400 pieces of furniture to five senior high schools in the constituency.

The residents further cited the construction of critical infrastructure in some secondary schools, the donation of computers to educational institutions, the provision of a Toyota pickup vehicle to strengthen local security operations, and the establishment of Nhyiaeso FC to promote youth development through sports.

They also commended the MP for equipping more than 1,000 residents with vocational skills in shoemaking, bead making, cake production, DSTV installation and other trades, while providing over 800 free sewing machines to beneficiaries to help them establish businesses.

Mr. Boakye further disclosed that Dr. Amoah had undertaken a scientific research exercise to gather accurate demographic data on the constituency to support planning and development.

"These achievements speak for themselves. That is why we reject any attempt to label him as a low-performing MP. We know the work he has done for Nhyiaeso, and we believe the facts should be considered before such assessments are made," he stated.
