Stop using entrance exams as admission preconditions — GTEC warns universities
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has instructed all universities across the country to immediately discontinue the use of entrance examinations as a requirement for admitting prospective students.
The directive is part of the Commission's efforts to ensure that admission procedures in tertiary institutions comply with national regulations while promoting fairness and equal access to higher education.
GTEC explained that admissions should be based solely on approved entry qualifications and requirements. It noted that universities should not impose additional entrance examinations unless such assessments are specifically permitted under the existing regulatory framework.
The Commission cautioned that institutions which fail to comply with the directive risk facing regulatory sanctions.
According to GTEC, the measure is intended to harmonise admission processes across Ghana's tertiary education system and protect the rights of qualified applicants seeking admission into accredited universities.
