Ghanaians have wised up now than ever – Roger TD Wills tells Ghana’s leaders
A National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicator, Roger TD Wills says "Ghanaians have wisened up over time," making it increasingly difficult for anyone to mislead the public in an era driven by social media and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking on the Class FM’s morning show on Wednesday, July 22, Wills said the country's information landscape has changed dramatically over the past two decades, giving citizens greater access to facts and the ability to independently verify public statements.
Reflecting on the late 1990s and early 2000s, he noted that access to information was far more limited because social media and modern digital technology had not yet become widespread across Ghana.
According to him, public figures could make statements that were largely accepted without scrutiny because there were few avenues for ordinary citizens to fact-check or challenge what they heard.
He explained that Ghanaians have evolved into a more informed and discerning public.
With social media platforms and AI-powered tools readily available, people now cross-check information, compare multiple sources and verify claims before accepting them as true.
Wills said this shift means public officials and people in positions of authority must also adapt to the changing realities.
He urged public institutions to communicate with greater accuracy, honesty and transparency, stressing that misleading or poorly communicated information is now more likely to be identified and questioned.
He argued that those entrusted with leadership have a responsibility to grow with the times and ensure that public communication is factual and clear, particularly when addressing issues of national importance.
According to Wills, transparent communication not only strengthens public confidence but also deepens trust between citizens and State institutions, adding that credibility is earned through consistency, openness and a commitment to telling the truth.
