65 Persons with Disabilities in Dormaa East receive GH¢216,810 Common Fund Support
Sixty-five Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Dormaa East District have received a total of GH¢216,810.49 from the fourth-quarter 2025 allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
The financial and material support is aimed at improving the beneficiaries' livelihoods, promoting economic independence and enhancing their overall well-being.
The assistance was provided under four main categories based on the specific needs of the beneficiaries.
Under the economic empowerment component, 34 beneficiaries received support to establish or expand income-generating activities. Of these, 24 were given start-up capital, four received deep freezers, five were provided with fufu machines, while one beneficiary received a mist blower and pesticides to support tomato farming.
The remaining 31 beneficiaries benefited from other interventions. Twelve received educational and skills training support, nine were assisted with medical care and mobility aids, while caregivers of 10 beneficiaries received financial assistance on their behalf.
Presenting the items and cash on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the Member of Parliament for the area, the District Chief Executive, Osei Owusu King, reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.
He said the intervention is intended to promote self-reliance, reduce street begging and improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities. He urged beneficiaries to put the support to productive use and encouraged them to seek clarification from the District Assembly whenever they encounter challenges.
The District Officer of the Department of Social Welfare, Madam Martha Gmanyami, assured the public that her office would closely monitor the use of the funds and equipment.
She explained that regular follow-up visits would be conducted to ensure the support is used for its intended purpose and to assess its impact on the beneficiaries' lives.
