Police arrest 19-year old ‘robbery’ suspect after midnight hot chase

A swift response by Police has led to the arrest of a 19-year old robbery suspect after a man was attacked and robbed in the Asabi area in Kumasi.

The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on July 21, 2026 when the Asokore Mampong night patrol team received reports that an adult male had been robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

Officers rushed to the scene where the suspect attempted to evade arrest by fleeing into an uncompleted building.

Police pursued him and successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, 19.

A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of the victim's stolen mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used in the attack.

Both items have been retained as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.

The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand.

He was immediately taken to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, officers visited the victim later that morning at about 5:30 a.m. and found him conscious and in stable condition.

He remains under medical observation while receiving treatment.

The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations as authorities continue preparations for the next legal steps.
