MTN to position Ghana for digital economy jobs through expanded home connectivity

Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Richard Acheampong

MTN Ghana says it is investing in digital infrastructure to position Ghana to take advantage of opportunities in the digital economy and create more jobs through improved connectivity.

The company says the home has become a key part of the country's digital transformation, making reliable internet access essential for education, business, remote work and entertainment.

Speaking at the MTN Bright Conversations, Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, Richard Acheampong, said expanding home connectivity forms a major part of the company's Ambition 2030 strategy, which is built on three pillars – Connectivity, Fintech and Digital Infrastructure.

According to him, MTN believes the future growth of its business will largely depend on its ability to provide quality internet services to homes across the country.

He explained that the COVID-19 pandemic changed how people work, study and access services, making the home a centre for many daily activities.

Mr Acheampong noted that before the pandemic, many activities could only be carried out physically, but the experience demonstrated that education, business meetings, religious services and other engagements could also be conducted remotely.

He said this transformation has increased the demand for dependable internet services, prompting MTN to invest in digital infrastructure that supports households and contributes to national development.

"Our strategy is Ambition 2030. We have three pillars - Connectivity, Fintech and Digital Infrastructure. Within connectivity, we are focusing on consumers, enterprises and accelerating home. Home is at the core of our strategy because we believe the future of our business will largely be determined by how well we harness this opportunity," he said.

Mr Acheampong added that MTN has taken the responsibility to provide the digital infrastructure required to help Ghana play a meaningful role in the digital economy.

"We had to take the responsibility as MTN to provide the relevant digital infrastructure that will position Ghana to really play its role in delivering the jobs the digital economy requires for our country," he stated.

He described MTN Home as a service designed to deliver high-speed internet that supports streaming, online learning, remote work, entertainment, video conferencing and smart home technologies.

Mr Acheampong said MTN's fibre broadband service provides enough capacity for families, businesses and professionals to work and study without interruptions.

He explained that the service is intended to support households by providing affordable data, voice and video solutions while helping accelerate digital inclusion across the country.

The Chief Home Officer said strong digital infrastructure would not only improve the quality of internet services but also enable more people to participate in online businesses, digital education and remote employment opportunities.

He noted that the digital economy depends on stable and high-quality connectivity, and investing in fibre broadband is essential for Ghana's future competitiveness.

Mr Acheampong reiterated MTN's commitment to expanding home connectivity as part of its long-term strategy, stressing that the company remains focused on building infrastructure capable of meeting the growing digital needs of individuals, families and businesses.

He expressed confidence that improved home broadband services would help create an enabling environment for innovation, productivity and job creation, while supporting Ghana's broader digital transformation agenda.
