Government hands former Finance Ministry annex building to tourism ministry

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has taken possession of the former Ministry of Finance Annex Building following a handing-over ceremony held at the facility in Accra.

The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, said although the Ministry of Finance still required additional office space, government had allocated the building to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts because of the sector's role in supporting economic growth through tourism.

He said the annex building, which was constructed in 2007, has 97 offices, three conference rooms, furniture and other equipment, all of which have been transferred to the Ministry.

Mr Ampem said the Ministry of Finance was renovating the building at its own expense to ensure a smooth transition. He added that government planned to increase budgetary support for the tourism sector in future fiscal years in recognition of its contribution to national development.

Receiving the facility on behalf of the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Deputy Minister, Yussif Issaka Jajah, thanked the Ministry of Finance for allocating the building to the Ministry.

He said the transfer was not only about providing office accommodation but also an investment that would improve the Ministry's operations and service delivery.

Mr Jajah assured the Ministry of Finance that the facility would be properly maintained and used to support the Ministry's work in promoting tourism, preserving Ghana's cultural heritage and developing the creative arts sector.

He also urged staff of the Ministry and its agencies to use the new working environment as motivation to demonstrate professionalism, innovation, dedication and excellence in carrying out their responsibilities.

Delivering the welcome address on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, the Coordinating Director in charge of Operations, Mr David Klotey Collison, said the transfer formed part of the Ministry's efforts to ensure efficient management and effective use of government assets.

He expressed confidence that the facility would provide a suitable working environment for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to carry out its mandate and commended officials from both Ministries for their cooperation throughout the transition process.
