Police intercept over 1,000 vehicles in Greater Accra over unauthorized sirens, vehicle modifications
The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide enforcement exercise targeting the unauthorized use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, beacon lights and improper vehicle modifications.
The exercise forms part of efforts to enforce road traffic regulations, improve road safety and promote discipline among motorists.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, the law enforcement agency noted that drivers found violating the law were educated on the relevant regulations, while unauthorized devices and illegal modifications were removed and seized for further action.
According to the Police, the operation is part of a nationwide campaign that began on June 15, with thousands of vehicles already intercepted across the country.
"The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region during an ongoing nationwide road traffic enforcement exercise aimed at clamping down on the unauthorised use of horns, sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights, improvised vehicle modifications, and other related offences," the Police statement read in part.
The Service disclosed that a total of 4,627 vehicles have so far been intercepted nationwide since the exercise commenced.
It noted that motorists who breached the regulations were educated on the law, and prohibited equipment fitted onto their vehicles was confiscated for further action.
"The enforcement exercise forms part of the Service's commitment to promoting discipline, safety, and compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations," the statement added.
The Police assured the public that similar operations would continue across the country to improve road safety and ensure strict compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations.
