Gov’t Set to Unveil New Basic School Curriculum Featuring Coding, AI, TVET and Ethics — Haruna Iddrisu
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu says Ghana is ready to roll out a revamped basic education curriculum that will introduce coding, artificial intelligence (AI), electronics, TVET and ethics from kindergarten through junior high school.
He says the reforms are aimed at equipping Ghanaian pupils with practical, technology‑driven skills needed to compete in a fast‑changing global economy, while strengthening the country’s long‑term STEM agenda.
Speaking to the press on Monday, July 20, the minister disclosed that the revised curriculum has reached a major milestone and will be formally submitted to the Ministry of Education on Wednesday for onward transmission to the President, Cabinet and Parliament.
“The revision of our curriculum is to ensure a smart curriculum for greater integration of technology, science, engineering, and mathematics. We have promised to introduce coding, electronics, artificial intelligence, and TVET into the basic education curriculum.”
He said the reforms are designed to nurture critical thinking, innovation and technical competence from early childhood, ensuring Ghanaian learners are future‑ready.
Support for Girls’ Education
Mr Iddrisu also highlighted interventions to improve access for girls, revealing that government has distributed 12.2 million sanitary pads nationwide to support about 2.5 million female students in basic and secondary schools.
