Bolgatanga traders petition IGP to maintain Black Maria security team in Upper East

Traders in Bolgatanga have appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to retain the Special Operations Team, popularly known as the Black Maria, in the Upper East Region, citing the need to sustain security in the area.

The appeal was made through a peaceful demonstration held on Saturday, during which the traders presented a petition to the government. The petition was received by the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Roland Ayoo, on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga.

Receiving the petition, Mr Ayoo assured the demonstrators that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for consideration.

He said the government would give the petition the necessary attention and ensure that any action required on its part would be taken.

Mr Ayoo also praised the traders and residents for conducting the demonstration peacefully, describing their conduct as commendable.

He noted that while the right to demonstrate is guaranteed under Ghana's laws, it should always be exercised responsibly and in a manner that promotes peace and public order.
